1. They 'try' a marketing channel, get little to no results, and decide it doesn't work for their business
I always dig into exactly how they ran the test, and 99% of the time they either set up the campaign incorrectly, or they didn't do enough volume to give it a chance
For example, running a successful cold email campaign requires you to get 10+ things exactly right. Get a single piece of the puzzle wrong and your whole campaign will flop, and you'll have no idea why
2. They pay an agency <£3k and give them 30 days to get results
If you pay an agency £3k, about £1k of that is actually going towards your campaign. The rest goes on agency running costs and in the founder's pocket
The cost to acquire a B2B client in 2026 varies from £1k-£5k
The average sales cycle is 4-5 months
You are not going to far with £1k marketing spend over 30 days
3. They hire human SDRs to generate leads for them
The average SDR does about 100 cold calls a week, send 100 cold emails and 100 LinkedIn connections/messages
IF they are good at their job, with current hit rates, they'll book 1-2 meetings per month total
You're paying £2k-£4k per meeting, when you could be spending 10x less for the same result if you reallocate the budget to marketing
The days of human SDRs generating leads is over. Period.
